The 80/20 Rule for Website Content

The 80/20 Rule for Website Content

Did you know that 80% of your website results will come from 20% of your website content? This is a concept that we regularly see as lacking as a web development agency in our client’s old website.

As a web development agency, we are constantly preaching to our clients that less is more. Your website is for dating (specifically the first date), not for proposing. This is an analogy we use all the time as a web development agency. On the first date, you don’t cover every single topic in the entire universe. You cover the good stuff. The highlights. The “need to knows” about your company so visitors know whether you are a good fit for their needs. You make sure your visitors are excited to go on a second date, which in this case is your sales discovery call or demo.

That first date is just to get them to visit and click through your website. As a web development agency, we are strong believers that your website should be fun and exciting but it shouldn’t get lost in the details of your features. It should highlight the best of the best. If 20% of your website content is going to drive 80% of your results, then you need to only disclose about 20% of what you think your website should cover.

As your web development agency, we strongly recommend that you use your website strategically but don’t overwhelm your visitors. Focus on the content that is going to make your visitors excited to continue the conversation by booking a sales call, but don’t give away all the answers up front.
